I will unseat Akpabio in 2027 – Akpabio’s In-law declares

Dr Patience Akpabio, the in-law of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has openly declared that she will challenge him for the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial seat in 2027.

In a bold statement posted on her Facebook page, Patience described herself as the “incoming distinguished Senator for Akwa Ibom North West” and insisted that her victory at the polls was already sealed.

She went further to assert that her decision was not a casual ambition but a calling she intends to pursue with determination.

“Come 2027, whether they like it or not, I will be the next senator for this district,” she wrote.

Patience Akpabio, who is married to politician Ibanga Akpabio, is also an evangelist and public speaker.

Her ties to the Akpabio political dynasty make her declaration even more significant, given the family’s strong influence in Akwa Ibom politics.

The Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District has been a key battleground for the Akpabios.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio himself lost the seat in 2019 to Chris Ekpenyong but returned in 2023 to reclaim it.

Observers believe Patience’s announcement could unsettle the region’s political landscape.

A political analyst in Uyo said on a radio programme, “This is not an ordinary contest. It’s a battle within the family that could redefine political alliances ahead of 2027.”

With her declaration already generating attention online, residents of Akwa Ibom are waiting to see how the Senate President will respond to what many are calling an “unexpected challenge from within.”
