AKURE, ONDO STATE- Residents of the Uluyagbo community in Akure North Local Government Area have formally praised the Ondo State Government for its immediate investigation into the incessant rock blasting by Dortmund and Company Limited.

In a statement released on behalf of the community, residents expressed their gratitude to the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Hon. Alabi Jaiyeola Johnson, for responding quickly to their distress calls. The community has long raised concerns that the company’s operations have created a constant state of fear and endangered their properties.

The government delegation, led by Hon. Johnson, was commended for condemning Dortmund’s activities, particularly the apparent failure to conduct a proper Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) before beginning operations so close to a residential area.

According to the community, they said the company has blatantly ignored several invitations to peace meetings, disregarded their voice, refusing to speak when demanded. The state’s intervention has finally forced the company to acknowledge their complaints after a prolonged period of public outcry, evidence in the recent publication.

Expressing their confidence in the leadership of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the residents are now urging the government to impose strict sanctions on the company for violating their rights and operating without regard for regulations.

The statement also clarified that, contrary to some reports, the Uluyagbo community is a significant residential area with approximately 120 households and over 200 houses. The community insists that the safety of its residents must be prioritized and hopes the government’s probe will lead to a permanent resolution.
