Police Arrest Notorious Car-Snatching Syndicate, Recover Six Stolen Vehicles and ₦15 Million Cash in Abuja

In a major breakthrough against organized crime, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested a notorious car-snatching syndicate responsible for a series of high-profile vehicle thefts across Abuja and neighboring states. The successful operation led to the recovery of six stolen cars, along with ₦15 million in cash believed to be proceeds of their criminal activities

According to police authorities, the syndicate had operated for months using sophisticated tactics, including forged documents, cloned plate numbers, and coordinated sales channels. Their operations primarily targeted high-brow areas of the Federal Capital Territory, where they trailed unsuspecting car owners before snatching the vehicles at gunpoint or during brief stopovers.

The breakthrough came after an intelligence-driven surveillance operation by the FCT Police Command’s Anti-Car Theft Unit. Acting on credible information, officers stormed a hideout in the outskirts of Gwagwalada, resulting in the arrest of the gang leader and several accomplices.
During the raid, officers recovered six high-end vehicles, including SUVs and sedans, all confirmed to have been stolen from different locations within Abuja. Additionally, police discovered ₦15 million in cash, suspected to be part of the funds generated from earlier sales of stolen vehicles.

The FCT Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling violent crimes in the capital city. He also assured residents that the arrested suspects would face full prosecution, while efforts are underway to apprehend fleeing members of the gang and dismantle their wider network.
Residents of the affected communities have applauded the police for the swift action, describing the development as a major relief considering the recent spike in vehicle thefts. Car owners whose vehicles were recovered have been invited for proper identification and documentation.

The police further urged the public to remain vigilant, avoid leaving cars unattended with engines running, and report suspicious activities promptly. They also encouraged the installation of modern security devices such as trackers and immobilizers to aid quick recovery in case of theft.
