Gov. Fubara officially defects to APC
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has formally renounced his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party and aligned himself with the All Progressives Congress, signalling a major political realignment in the state.
Fubara disclosed his new political direction on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ session held at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
“Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party,” he said while addressing the gathering.
The governor’s move adds to the list of key political figures who have moved to the APC in recent months as parties strengthen their bases ahead of forthcoming electoral activities.
During the meeting, he added, “The governor announced his defection at a stakeholders meeting held at the government house in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.”
His switch is expected to reshape the political balance in Rivers State, long considered a stronghold of the PDP.
