The Senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire SAN, on Monday rolled out a large-scale empowerment initiative tagged the Adegbonmire Renewed Hope Mega Empowerment Programme, distributing a wide array of economic tools and educational support materials to hundreds of beneficiaries across the district. Items shared at the event included tricycles, motorcycles, generators, sewing machines, industrial machines, freezers, hair dryers, wheelchairs, books and other materials aimed at strengthening livelihoods. Schools within the district were also given substantial educational resources to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.

Representing Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa at the event, the Special Adviser on Legislative Matters, Kolawole Babatunde , commended Senator Adegbonmire for what he described as a practical demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He stated that the initiative reflects the state government’s belief that good governance must be felt in meaningful, tangible ways by ordinary citizens. According to him, programmes that create opportunities for livelihood, encourage self-reliance and prepare citizens to compete in an ever-evolving world align perfectly with the administration’s vision. He urged beneficiaries to make productive use of the items, adding that empowerment is a continuous journey that demands perseverance, collaboration and confidence in what communities can achieve when they work together.

Senator Adegbonmire, in his remarks, expressed deep appreciation to those who attended and emphasised that the programme was conceived out of a longstanding desire to give back to a people who have always believed in his capacity and character. He paid glowing tribute to his late father, High Chief Wunmi Adegbonmire, who served as Secretary to the State Government under the administration of Governor Adebayo Adefarati. The senator described his father as his greatest inspiration, a man whose sacrifices and lifelong dedication to public service shaped his own political journey. He explained that his father began his political life in 1952, despite being unable to attend secondary school, vowing to pursue politics so that others would not suffer similar disadvantages. Senator Adegbonmire said he felt fulfilled, confident that his father would have been proud of the impact being made today, adding that he considers himself a continuation of his father’s legacy of service, compassion and commitment to community development.

The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, praised the senator warmly, describing him as a true son of Akure who has not only served the Akure people with distinction but has also represented the entire senatorial district with uncommon dedication. He stated that Senator Adegbonmire “has returned home” in grand style through an initiative that is clearly impactful and well thought out. The monarch noted that the scale of items distributed reflects sincerity of purpose and a deep understanding of community needs, stressing that what was witnessed was not a symbolic gesture but genuine empowerment capable of transforming lives.

Elder statesman and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Oba Olu Falae, lauded the senator for empowering people “with dignity,” describing him as a leader who does not humiliate those he assists. He noted that what was showcased at the event was only a small portion of the senator’s contributions, explaining that Adegbonmire has been quietly reaching out to people for years through scholarships, payment of student tuition, support for indigent families, provision of transformers and street lights to communities, and other silent interventions. He also commended him for the large auditorium currently being constructed at Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, stating that projects like this demonstrate real commitment to human and community development.

APC State Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, also hailed Senator Adegbonmire for sustaining the legacies of his father, whom he described as one of the finest political minds Ondo State has ever produced. He noted that the senator has distinguished himself beyond the responsibilities traditionally associated with federal lawmakers. Adetimehin emphasised that Akure, despite being the state capital, did not have a teaching hospital for decades, but now has one due to the senator’s efforts at the National Assembly. According to him, the senator’s influence, intellect and consistency have earned him a strong reputation, with the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, praising his legislative competence and leadership on multiple occasions.

The Chief Imam of Akure, Alhaji Abdul-Hakeem Yayi-Akorede, expressed gratitude to the senator for remaining close to his people and consistently showing commitment to their welfare. He described Adegbonmire as a leader who has not forgotten his roots and continues to share both his influence and resources with those he represents.

Senator Adegbonmire reiterated that everything done was simply a way of giving back to a community that has always stood by him and believed in his vision. He assured constituents that the empowerment programme is only one of many initiatives he intends to pursue, noting that education, youth development and economic empowerment would continue to receive strong attention. Schools, he emphasised, were deliberately included in the programme because building the future requires investing in the next generation through adequate learning materials and improved access to educational resources.

The event drew an impressive gathering of political leaders, traditional rulers, community figures and enthusiastic residents from across the senatorial district. Many described the initiative as one of the most far-reaching empowerment programmes witnessed in recent years, marking another milestone in Senator Adegbonmire’s growing reputation for effective and compassionate representation.
