Government approves ₦150,000 bonus for all civil servants as Christmas and New year Bonus

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has approved a Christmas bonus of ₦150,000 for every civil servant in the state for the 2025 festive season.

The announcement was made on Sunday during a church service at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki. This was confirmed in a statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.

Governor Nwifuru said the bonus shows his administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers, despite the drop in state revenue over the past year.

While speaking at the service, the governor also dismissed claims that work on the Vincent Agwu Nwankwo Flyover has been delayed. He said the project is ongoing and remains one of the biggest flyover constructions in the country.

According to him, the flyover project is demanding but will change the look of the state and improve its environment when completed. He also criticised misleading reports on social media about the project.

The governor said the project is part of efforts to leave a lasting legacy and position Ebonyi State for global recognition in good governance and modern infrastructure.

In August, the governor increased the state minimum wage by ₦20,000, raising civil servants’ pay to ₦90,000 under his People’s Charter of Needs Agenda.

At the national level, President Bola Tinubu signed the new minimum wage law in July 2024, increasing the national minimum wage to ₦70,000. Some states are yet to implement the new wage structure.
