Tinubu Personally Directed APC to Register Rivers Governor Fubara — Party Spokesman Reveals

Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC) Publicity Secretary Honourable Chibuike Ikenga has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu personally directed the state party leadership to register Governor Siminalayi Fubara as a member.

Speaking during an interview with TVC, Ikenga disclosed the presidential instruction behind the governor’s registration. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu himself had asked us to get him registered and we did that today. And at that level, we didn’t know what roles he has to play. But the caliber of person he is as a governor in ensuring that we put our party together to ensuring that we win all the elections with his supporters is key,” he said

When asked whether the APC now operates under Governor Fubara’s control, the publicity secretary clarified the governor’s stated role. “If I heard him properly and if I understood what he said, he said that he’s going to do everything possible to ensure that the party is put on a proper footing to win elections. And he said particularly the presidential election, and that is expected of him to contribute to the party,” Ikenga stated.

He resisted suggestions that Governor Fubara would dictate party operations, noting that all stakeholders—including the governor, president, ministers, National Assembly members, House of Assembly members, and ordinary citizens—collectively determine party direction. Ikenga insisted that these diverse members who support the party financially and organizationally share decision-making authority rather than concentrating power in the governor’s hands.
