Awujale Stool: Wasiu Ayinde’s Fidipote Ruling House Moves to Claim Throne, Says Fusengbuwa Misses Deadline to Present Candidate

The Fidipote Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode has moved to claim the right to present candidates for the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland stool, citing the alleged failure of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to meet the deadline stipulated by law.

In a letter addressed to the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government and the Ogun State Government, the Fidipote family said the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, which was first entitled to present candidates, failed to submit any nominee within the 14 days provided under the Ogun State Chieftaincy Law, 2021.

According to the family, Fusengbuwa was formally notified on December 2, 2025, but did not present any candidate before the statutory deadline, which expired on December 16, 2025.

Citing Section 16(1)(c) of the law and the Awujale Chieftaincy Declaration of 1959, the Fidipote Ruling House stated that it is now next in line to present candidates for consideration by the kingmakers.

The family has consequently notified the authorities of its intention to present candidates and invited the local government secretary, or a representative, to observe its general meeting scheduled for Saturday, December 20, 2025, in Ijebu-Ode.

The Fidipote Ruling House assured that the selection process would be conducted peacefully, transparently, and strictly in line with the law and established customary practices.
