Former House of Assembly Speaker Dumps PDP for APC

A former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Christopher Ogbonnaya Enweremadu, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Enweremadu, who is also a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Abia State, announced his decision during a PDP stakeholders’ meeting held at his residence in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area. He later formally joined the APC at a separate meeting of the party, which he hosted at his country home in Ahiaba Okpuala, Ngwa Ukwu, Isiala Ngwa North.

The well-attended political gathering brought together the entire leadership and structure of the APC in the local government area, including party executives, stakeholders, women leaders and grassroots members, marking a significant boost for the party in the area.

Addressing the gathering, Rt. Hon. Enweremadu praised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as focused, courageous and committed to repositioning Nigeria’s economy and institutions for sustainable growth. He urged the people of Abia State, particularly those in Abia Central Senatorial District, to identify with and actively participate in the APC-led administration for the overall development of the state and the country.

According to him, the APC represents progressive ideas and inclusive governance, adding that Abia State stands to gain more by aligning with the party at the centre.

Several party leaders spoke at the event, including the APC Chairman in Isiala Ngwa North LGA, Mr. Augustine C. Amalaha, who commended Enweremadu for his leadership, support and commitment to strengthening the party at the grassroots.

Others who spoke included Prince Brave Ikem Enweremadu and the LGA Secretary, Mr. Enyinnaya Olehi, all of whom reaffirmed the loyalty of party members and pledged continued mobilisation ahead of future political engagements.

The APC Women Leader in the LGA, Lolo Felicia Chidi, highlighted the increasing participation of women in party activities and assured the leadership of their readiness to support APC programmes and policies.

A major highlight of the event was the ceremonial presentation of the APC symbol of authority—the broom—signifying unity, collective strength and renewed confidence in the party’s leadership.

The gathering ended on a note of solidarity, with party members expressing optimism about the future of the APC in Abia State and pledging to work together to expand the party’s influence across the local government area and beyond.
