APC Chieftain, Hon. Sulaimon Fatai, Eulogises President Tinubu Over Enforcement of Local Government Autonomy
An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Hon. Sulaimon Fatai, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for enforcing local government autonomy through an Executive Order mandating direct disbursement of federal allocations (FAAC) to local governments.
Hon. Fatai described the move as a bold, timely, and patriotic decision that demonstrates the President’s commitment to strengthening grassroots governance and deepening democracy in Nigeria.
According to him, the Executive Order aligns fully with the recent Supreme Court ruling which affirmed the financial independence of local governments, stressing that funds meant for councils must no longer be diverted or controlled by state governments.
“This decisive action by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a clear affirmation of the rule of law and respect for judicial pronouncements. It will empower local governments to function effectively, deliver dividends of democracy, and fast-track development at the grassroots,” Hon. Fatai stated.
He urged state governors and relevant authorities to comply fully with the Supreme Court ruling and the President’s directive, noting that resistance or delay would only hinder national progress and undermine constitutional governance.
Hon. Fatai further emphasized that direct FAAC allocations would improve transparency, accountability, and service delivery at the local level, while also reducing financial bottlenecks that have stalled development in rural communities for decades.
He concluded by calling on Nigerians, especially political stakeholders, to support President Tinubu’s reform agenda, describing it as a necessary step toward building a stronger, more equitable, and prosperous nation.
