If Professor Simidele Odimayo were a university, enrolment would be competitive. This is not because of slogans or spectacle, but because people recognise quality when they see it. In a season where Ondo South must choose between noise and knowledge, between politics as performance and politics as service, Odimayo represents something rare in Nigerian public life: seriousness of purpose.

Over a dozen people are currently aspiring to succeed the incubent, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, now an ambassador. Most of them are undeniably visible and wealthy, but visibility is not vision, and wealth is not wisdom. Ondo South has seen politics driven by spectacle before; it needs stewardship now. A senator is not an advert; it is an advocate.
Some also offer energy and ambition, but at this moment, Ondo South needs more than promise; it needs proof. The challenges before the district, which include economic transition, youth unemployment, infrastructure deficits, require tested intellectual leadership, not on-the-job training.
