Nigerian Army Disrupts Gunrunning Network, Seizes Large Cache of Ammunition in Plateau
Troops of the 3 Division, Nigerian Army, under Operation Enduring Peace, have recorded a major security breakthrough with the arrest of a suspected gunrunner and the recovery of arms and a significant quantity of ammunition in Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
Acting on credible intelligence, troops working with the Department of State Services (DSS) conducted targeted operations aimed at cutting off illegal weapons supply lines ahead of the yuletide period, a time often exploited by criminal elements.
During a raid on a suspected criminal hideout at Gwender Village, Bokkos LGA, security forces recovered a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, a pistol, and assorted ammunition, despite suspects fleeing the scene.
In a follow-up operation, a joint Army–DSS checkpoint at Mairana, Mangu LGA, led to the interception of a suspect found in possession of 1,400 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, indicating an attempt to fuel armed criminal activity in the area.
The suspect and recovered items are currently under secure custody as investigations continue, while troops have intensified area domination, intelligence-led patrols, and manhunt operations to dismantle the wider criminal network.
The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its resolve to deny criminal groups access to weapons, maintain operational pressure, and ensure maximum security across Plateau State and the North-Central region.
