Abure breaks silence after being sacked as Labour Party chairman
The Labour Party (Julius Abure faction) has announced its intention to appeal the recent Federal High Court ruling in Abuja that recognized Esther Nenadi Usman as the Caretaker Chairman of the party.
The court, led by Justice Peter Lifu, cited the Supreme Court’s April 4, 2025, decision to justify its ruling.
However, the party in a statement insisted that the judgment contradicts the Supreme Court, which stated that courts cannot appoint party leadership since it is an internal matter.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, said the ruling misinterpreted the Supreme Court verdict and argued that the executive tenure of the Labour Party had not expired.
The National Working Committee under Barrister Julius Abure remains, according to the party, the authentic leadership recognized by the Court of Appeal.
The party also criticized the court’s handling of the case, including the reassignment to Justice Lifu and the refusal to respond fully to counterarguments.
Labour Party officials accused opponents of celebrating a judgment before it was delivered and described the ruling as inconsistent and legally flawed.
The party assured members that it would continue to follow legal channels to protect its leadership and warned that no financial influence would make it relinquish control.
The party said remains committed to its position and said it will appeal the decision to the Court of Appeal to ensure the matter is resolved according to the law
