Inside The Strict Conditions Imposed On Fubara By Tinubu In New Peace Deal With Wike

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has again intervened to end Nyesom Wike and governor Fubara’s standoff, demanding strict compliance from the two parties to the terms of the truce.

THISDAY newspaper reports that a presidential source who demands anonymity, revealed that president Bola Ahmed Tinubu before travelling to Turkey, mediated Wike-Fubara’s renewed political rift following the Rivers state House of Assembly move to impeach the Rivers state governor.

According to the unnamed presidential source quoted by THISDAY newspaper, president Tinubu ordered the members of the Rivers state House of Assembly to halt the impeachment of governor Sim Fubara, expressing his disappointment over their resorting to self-help, defying the earlier directive and terms of their previous truce. The president warned that he will not condone the parties violating his latest directives on the matter, mandating that the two parties must now focus on providing needed governance to the people of Rivers state.

He ordered FCT minister, Nyesom Wike to immediately halt the impeachment proceeding against governor Siminalayi Fubara and allow governance in Rivers state, emphasizing that any political tension in the state would have national implications especially as Rivers state is important for his reelection. President Tinubu emphasizing the importance of unity in Rivers state to his 2027 reelection, warned against divided house.

President Tinubu also directed governor Sim Fubara to unconditionally recognize former governor Nyesom Wike as the political leader of both the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC). He said governor Sim Fubara must relate with Wike and respect him as an elder and statesman. He stated that Wike as the political leader in Rivers state, will have incontestable rights on political parties’ decision whether in APC or PDP; as such, governor Sim Fubara is mandated to consult with Wike on issues about the state as his political leader–a condition the Fubara’s camp perceives difficult to comply with due to the level of animosity that now exist between the two camps.

On Fubara’s political future and issue of who gets the APC’s governorship ticket for 2027, president Tinubu described it as coming too early. He ordered the two parties to desist from talking about the 2027 governorship ticket, noting that it’s too early for them to be obsessed with such matter.

President Tinubu reiterated his stance that the two parties should focus on deliverying governance to the Rivers state people instead of focusing on their political future.

The source revealed that president Tinubu was evasive on the issue of 2026 budget as well as suplimently budget being requested by the leadership of the Rivers state House of Assembly in view of Fubara’s insistence that the budget passed by the national assembly during the state of emergency, is still valid.

Recall that recently, the national chairman of the APC, professor Nentawe Yilwatda revealed that the party under his leadership is handling the political crisis in Rivers state, the reason the matter died down.
