I Removed Forex And Petrol Subsidies In The Interest Of Nigeria And There’s No Looking Back” – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has defended his administration’s decision to remove fuel subsidies and implement wide-ranging economic reforms, insisting the actions were taken in the best interest of Nigeria and will not be reversed.

Speaking during a meeting with World Bank officials, Tinubu said the reforms were necessary to address long-standing structural problems in the economy, even though they initially caused hardship for citizens.

He acknowledged that the early phase of the reforms was painful but maintained that sustained progress requires commitment and resilience. According to him, Nigeria cannot afford to abandon difficult but necessary decisions.

The president emphasized the need to strengthen the economy by focusing on agriculture, youth empowerment, and large-scale mechanisation, noting that Nigeria’s vast arable land and young population remain key assets for growth.

Tinubu also highlighted plans to support farmers through improved seedlings, access to fertilizers, regional mechanisation centres, and the expansion of small-scale farmers into cooperatives to improve productivity and market access.

Tinubu stressed that economic reform is a continuous process, adding that his government has “its hands on the plough” and will not look back.
