Suspension of admission: FUTA Teaching Hospital not affected, fully operational

Suspension of admission: FUTA Teaching Hospital not affected, fully operational

This FUTA announcement affects only its own admissions processes. It has no impact whatsoever on the establishment of Futa Teaching Hospital or its operations, including training, residency programmes, and healthcare services.

On October 23, 2025, the Federal Government—through the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate (CON)—signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ondo State Government for the transfer and handover of UNIMED Teaching Hospital, Akure, to the Federal Government.

Prof. Ali Pate then stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had directed the establishment of a Federal Teaching Hospital in Akure, Ondo State capital. The Ministry acted swiftly on this directive, giving birth to FUTA Teaching Hospital.

His words:”The President gave instructions months ago that the Ministry should collaborate with all stakeholders, including the Ondo State Government, to ensure this feat is achieved. We quickly set the machinery in motion.”

The establishment of FUTA Teaching Hospital stems directly from this presidential directive and remains unaffected by FUTA’s MBBS admissions suspension.

Residents of Ondo State and the general public are advised to disregard any related misinformation as Futa Teaching Hospital continues to operate fully and independently, delivering quality healthcare and professional training.
