They Killed My Husband Before My Eyes” — Ondo Monarch’s Wife Recounts Palace Horror.

There was shock and grief in Agamo community, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Wednesday evening as suspected bandits invaded the palace of the Alagamo of Agamo, Oba Kehinde Jacob Falodun, and killed him in a failed abduction attempt.

The attack, which occurred around 6 p.m., threw the quiet community into panic as residents fled for safety amid sporadic gunshots.

Wife: “They have killed baba o…”

Narrating the tragic incident, the Olori (wife of the monarch) said the attackers stormed the palace shortly after the monarch returned from Akure.

“He was seated in front of the palace. He went to Akure and came back, saying he would want to rest a bit, so he sat outside,” she said in tears.

The bandits just came and started shooting. They were about 10 in number. Three of them were at the entrance while about seven came inside. I ran away; one of them chased me but he did not know how I escaped into a nearby bush. I was shot at but it did not affect me.”

According to her, the assailants dragged the monarch away despite her cries for help.

“They kept dragging my husband and I kept shouting, but nobody could come out to rescue him. They later hit something on his head and his stomach. He has been killed. They were speaking Hausa language,” she said.

Daughter: “He kept telling them he was a king”

One of the monarch’s daughters also gave a chilling account of the attack, saying the gunmen shot repeatedly at the monarch inside the palace.

“They just invaded the palace and kept shooting at the king but the bullets didn’t penetrate. They carried him, but he kept telling them that he was a king. They kept beating him, wanting to take him away,” she said.

She added that the attackers attempted to abduct him before eventually killing him outside the palace.

“They kept shooting sporadically. Everybody ran for their lives. They carried him three times and baba kept telling them to drop him. Later, they brought out something like a knife and attacked him.

“The king was later killed outside the palace with blood gushing out of his head. He was with the Olori and a female guest when they came. They beat the guest and seized her mobile phone.”

The daughter said the attackers were dressed like Fulani herders and spoke Hausa, adding that they invaded the palace through the Itaogbolu axis.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred on February 18, 2026, at about 7:10 p.m.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer Abayomi Jimoh, information was received at about 7:50 p.m. from a community leader that armed men stormed the monarch’s residence, forcibly took him from his compound, and fled.

The victim was later found a few metres away with gunshot wounds and was confirmed dead at the scene,” the police said.

The Divisional Police Officer, alongside tactical teams, reportedly mobilised officers in collaboration with local security outfits, including Amotekun, local hunters and vigilantes, to comb adjoining bushes in search of the suspects.

“Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects. Monitoring and surveillance activities have been intensified to ensure the safety of residents,” the command added.

The police assured the public that those responsible for the killing would be brought to justice and urged anyone with credible information to report to the nearest station.

The gruesome killing has sparked outrage in the community, with residents calling for urgent action to curb rising insecurity in the area.
