ESIN URGES STUDENTS TO EMBRACE SPORTS AS GREEN HOUSE WINS SPECIAL EDUCATION CENTRE INTER-HOUSE GAMES

Member of the Governing Council of Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State, Chief Bassey Esin, has urged secondary school students to give adequate attention to sporting activities, noting that sports have become a major platform for global recognition and foreign earnings for talented youths.

Esin gave the advice last Saturday, during the inter-house sports competition of the Special Education Center Uyo, where he serves as Patron of the Purple House.

Speaking at the event, the former Transition Secretary of Urue Offong Oruko local government council commended the students for their impressive performances and encouraged them to balance their academic pursuits with active participation in sports.

Esin, who presented trophies, gifts, and other awards to winning houses and outstanding students, expressed delight at the high level of enthusiasm and sportsmanship displayed by the participants.

He particularly applauded the Purple House, named after him, for their colourful cultural display during the event and promised to reward each of the dancers with a pair of brand-new sandals.

The educationist also congratulated the Green House for emerging overall winners of the 2026 inter-house sports competition.

The patron further commended the Commissioner for Sports in the state, Elder Paul Bassey, who represented the Governor at the event, for reminding attendees that the Special Education Centre occupies a special place in the heart of Governor Eno.

Commending the Principal of the school, Mrs. EmemAbasi Isaac, and members of staff for their dedication, Elder Esin described their efforts as consistent with the ARISE agenda of the state Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, which aims to give every citizen a voice and visibility in governance.

He explained that the initiative also aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu for the development and inclusion of all Nigerians.

Esin also expressed appreciation to individuals and organisations that have continued to support the school and called on other well-meaning Akwa Ibomites to contribute in whatever way possible to the growth of the institution.

He expressed satisfaction that the school caters for both regular students and children with special needs, a situation he said makes the educational demands and welfare considerations of the institution unique.

He recalled a popular saying by a renowned cleric that, “every child is your child,” and urged the public to show greater compassion and support for children, especially those with special needs.
