Wike, Fubara, and Rivers Elders Reunite in Port Harcourt After Months of Political Tension, Says “The Political Family Is Fully United”

In a dramatic twist signaling a possible end to months of political crisis in Rivers State, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara have reportedly reconciled alongside key members of the Rivers State Elders Council.

The reunion, which took place in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, marks the first public meeting between the two political heavyweights since their fallout that threw the state into months of political turmoil.

According to reports, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Public Communications and Social Media to FCT Minister Nysome Wike, revealed the development in a post on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.

Olayinka disclosed that the meeting also had in attendance the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, and the Chairman of the Rivers State Elders Council, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba.

He stated that the long-divided political camp has finally come together in unity and peace.

Olayinka wrote:

“FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Chairman of the Rivers State Elders Council, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule and other leaders in a meeting in Port Harcourt yesterday.

The Political Family is fully united. It was the first meeting of all the political leaders on Wike’s side with Fubara.”

The reunion comes barely six months after President Bola Tinubu declared an emergency rule in Rivers State, following the deepening crisis between Wike and Fubara that threatened governance in the state.

During the intervention, the President suspended Governor Fubara for six months, along with his deputy and members of the State House of Assembly, to prevent further escalation.

President Tinubu subsequently appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.) as Sole Administrator to oversee the affairs of the state.

However, on September 17, President Tinubu lifted the suspension, reinstating Governor Fubara and the State Assembly to restore constitutional order and allow reconciliation efforts to take root.

The meeting, therefore, signals a major political realignment within the Rivers State power bloc, suggesting that peace may finally be returning to one of Nigeria’s most politically strategic states.

Observers say the reconciliation could strengthen the political machinery that once dominated Rivers politics under Wike’s leadership, while also stabilizing governance
Fubara’s administration.
