Rivers leadership mistake will be corrected in 2027, says Wike

Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), says the leadership mistake in Rivers will be corrected in 2027.

Wike spoke on Tuesday during a meeting with the people of Khana in Bori, Khana LGA of the state.

The FCT minister, without specifying the mistake he was referring to, said leaders are meant to serve the people’s will rather than pursue personal interests.

“We will not make the same mistake again at the state level in 2027, but we will talk about it later when the time comes. Just follow your leaders. Anywhere you see them going, that is where we are going,” he said.

Wike said his visit to Khana was not political but a gesture of gratitude to the community for supporting him and President Bola Tinubu.

“During the turbulent period, Khana stood with us, and now you have benefited from the good roads to the University of Environment, among other benefits, because of the love of Mr President. So many appointments have come to Ogoniland, and more are coming,” he said.

The minister said Rivers residents will cast their votes based on family ties rather than party loyalty, prioritising the state’s development under Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.

Wike has been making veiled criticisms of Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, since his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier this month.

The FCT minister reportedly moved against Fubara’s defection, as the PDP structure in Rivers, which he once controlled, has now aligned with the APC.
