APC Issues Stern Warning to Nyesom Wike Over Provocative Remarks
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a strong warning to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, over what it described as “disparaging and provocative” comments directed at the party and its leadership.
In a statement released on Tuesday, APC leaders accused Wike—who remains a card-carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—of deliberately meddling in the internal affairs of the ruling party while attempting to undermine its structure and authority, particularly in Rivers State.
According to the APC, Wike’s recent public remarks, where he claimed there is no “001” in APC and that there is “no land in politics,” were seen as a direct attempt to ridicule the party’s leadership hierarchy and downplay the authority of the current Rivers State Governor, who is affiliated with the APC.
Party leaders described the comments as unacceptable, disrespectful, and capable of heating up the political environment in the state. They warned that such statements amount to external interference and political provocation, especially coming from a politician who is not officially a member of the APC.
The APC stressed that Wike must make his political allegiance clear. The party urged him to either focus on resolving issues within his own party, the PDP, or formally defect to the APC if he intends to play any role in its internal political affairs.
“This continuous attempt to speak for, ridicule, or influence APC affairs while remaining in the PDP is misleading and dangerous,” the party said. “You cannot sit on the fence and throw stones.”
The party also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and caution Wike, noting that his comments, if left unchecked, could create unnecessary tension and confusion within the ruling party and among its supporters.
APC leaders warned that should Wike continue with what they described as verbal attacks and political distractions, the party would not hesitate to take appropriate actions to defend its integrity and leadership structure.
As political alignments continue to shift ahead of future elections, the APC’s warning signals growing unease over Wike’s increasing influence and outspoken role in national politics—despite his continued membership in the opposition PDP.
