JUST IN: The PDP Is Now Left With Three Governors: Bala Mohammed, Ahmadu Fintiri, And Seyi Makinde — Dahiru

Political analyst Majeed Dahiru has assessed the declining influence of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), attributing its weakening position to internal mismanagement and poor strategic decisions.

Speaking on The Volume Pod, Dahiru said the PDP has lost most of its former political strongholds and is now left with only three governors: Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State. He explained that the party’s steady loss of key states is the result of unresolved internal conflicts, failed zoning arrangements, and an inability to unite its traditional bases in the South and North-Central regions.

According to Dahiru, one of the party’s biggest mistakes was its decision during the 2023 general elections to field a northern presidential candidate when there was widespread expectation that the ticket should go to the South. He argued that this decision alienated many supporters, weakened internal trust, and reduced the party’s appeal in regions that once formed its strongest support base.

Dahiru stressed that the PDP’s current condition is not simply due to the strength of rival parties such as the All Progressives Congress (APC), but largely the result of its own failures. He said the party struggled to maintain unity, manage internal disputes, and present a clear national strategy that could inspire confidence among voters.

He added that although the PDP still controls a few states, time is running out for the party to correct its mistakes. According to him, the party must urgently rebuild internal unity, resolve leadership conflicts, and develop a strong political direction if it hopes to remain relevant in future elections.

Dahiru warned that without serious reforms, the PDP risks losing more ground to the APC and newer political parties that are rapidly gaining influence across the country
