Wike Sets Tough Conditions for Endorsing Next Rivers Governor

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has declared that he will not endorse any governorship candidate in Rivers State without absolute loyalty, warning that the aspirant’s “blood and hands” must be fully committed to him and his political interest.

Wike made the strong statement at his residence in Abuja during a visit by PDP delegates from Rivers State ahead of the party’s national convention.

At the closed-door meeting, the former Rivers Governor made it clear he has learnt from past experiences and will not repeat the mistake of endorsing someone who does not prioritize his interest.

“I will not make the mistake again this time,” Wike was quoted as saying. “If you want my endorsement, your blood and hand must be committed to us. No half measures.”

The outspoken politician, who remains a major power broker in Rivers politics despite serving in the APC-led federal government, used the occasion to send a strong message to potential 2027 governorship contenders both within and outside the PDP.

Political observers believe Wike’s remarks are directed at those eyeing the Brick House in 2027, especially amid the ongoing rift with Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the realignment of political forces in the state.
