Gov Adeleke Names New Akire Of Ikire And Key Traditional Rulers

The Osun State Government has officially approved Prince Tajudeen Olanrewaju as the new Akire of Ikire, following the passing of Oba Olatunde Falabi (Lambeloye III). According to Ireporter Online, the decision was reached during a State Executive Council meeting held in Osogbo on Friday, presided over by Governor Ademola Adeleke. Africans & Diaspora

The appointment was confirmed in a statement by the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi. The council’s approval came after deliberations on a memo presented by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in line with existing laws and the terms previously agreed upon by Ikire’s five ruling houses.

Oba Olatunde Falabi, the immediate past Akire, passed away on February 27, 2026. The Akire stool had previously been a source of dispute, dating back to a 2021 controversy linked to a 2014 Supreme Court ruling that declared the Lambeloye Ruling House ineligible to occupy the stool following a vacancy in 1987. To resolve the matter, the Osun State Government collaborated with the five ruling houses to amend the 1958 Akire Chieftaincy Declaration, paving the way for the Aketula Ruling House to produce the next monarch.

In addition to the Akire appointment, the council approved the installation of other traditional rulers across Osun State. These include Prince Tijani Feyi Ademola as the Aladodo of Adodo and Prince (Dr.) Jacob Adetayo Haastrup as the Olumobi of Imobi-Ijesa, both in Atakumosa East Local Government Area. The council also sanctioned the elevation of new Obas from the Ile-Ife, Osogbo, and Ijesa traditional councils.
