APC Nentawe Chairman Prof Nentawe Yilwatda Delivers Agricultural Support to Farmers in Pankshin and Kanke

Farmers in Pankshin and Kanke Local Government Areas of Plateau State have commended Professor NENTAWE Yilwatda for delivering on his pledge to support dry season farming, following the distribution of agricultural inputs and equipment on Tuesday, April 21.

Speaking at the event in Pankshin, a representative of the APC National Chairman, Sunday Ishaku Gokir Bugamma said the intervention was part of ongoing efforts to support farmers and improve agricultural productivity in the area.

According to him, items distributed included 100 solar-powered water pumps, one mini tractor, two hand-powered diesel tractors, 500 bags of improved rice seeds, 50 knapsack sprayers, 10 brush cutters, 40 pairs of rain boots, and 100 overalls. He added that more materials are expected.

Bugama stated that the initiative was designed to expand farming beyond tomatoes and vegetables by introducing improved rice seedlings and other inputs suited to the local environment.

He noted that the equipment supplied represents a significant financial investment, running into hundreds of millions of naira, and highlighted ongoing efforts to make agricultural tools more accessible under current national policies.

He also described the intervention as one influenced by Professor Yilwatda’s background, noting his experience growing up in a farming community.

The representative further disclosed that similar support programmes have been extended to farmers in several states, including Kaduna, Adamawa, Yobe, and Gombe, among others.

Chairman of Dry Season Farmers in Pankshin and Kanke, Sudan Ishaku Wulmina, confirmed that the farmers had earlier received ₦10 million in revolving loan support, distributed among 548 registered farming groups in the area.

He said the introduction of improved rice seeds would help address challenges associated with outdated planting materials and improve yields in the coming season.

Residents at the event described the intervention as a notable development for agriculture in Plateau State, with potential to enhance food production and support rural livelihoods.

The farmers also acknowledged the role of President Tinubu in creating an enabling environment for such initiatives.
