Rivers State Youths Urge Governor Fubara to Drop 2027 Ambition, Back Martins Amaewhule

In a bold political move, a major youth group in Rivers State has called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to shelve his 2027 governorship ambition and instead support Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule as the preferred candidate.

The demand was made by youths under the leadership of Ambassador Divine Wuche during a youth stakeholders meeting held in Port Harcourt.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Ambassador Divine Wuche described the position as a strategic decision aimed at ensuring unity, continuity, and effective leadership in the state. He emphasized that the youths have carefully assessed the current political landscape and believe Amaewhule possesses the experience, capacity, and widespread acceptance needed to drive Rivers State forward.

“We, the youths of Rivers State, after wide consultations and deep reflection on the future of our state, are calling on His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, to consider dropping his 2027 governorship ambition. We urge him to throw his weight behind Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, who has demonstrated strong leadership and commitment to the people,” Wuche stated.

The meeting, which brought together youth leaders from various local government areas, discussed issues of governance, political stability, and youth empowerment. Participants reportedly expressed concerns over ongoing political tensions in the state and stressed the need for a successor who can consolidate gains and foster inclusive development.

The group praised Governor Fubara’s contributions during his tenure but maintained that stepping aside for Amaewhule would serve the best interest of Rivers people and prevent unnecessary political fragmentation ahead of the 2027 elections.

As of now, neither Governor Fubara nor Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule has issued an official response to the youths’ demand. Political watchers, however, say the statement could significantly influence the emerging 2027 permutations in Rivers State

This development comes amid heightened political activities and realignments as different interest groups begin to position themselves for the next electoral cycle.
