Wike Slams Fubara: “Governor Yet to Submit Budget But Busy Running for Second Term”

Former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday took a swipe at his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, accusing him of neglecting governance priorities while aggressively pursuing a second term in office.

Wike made the statement during a media briefing with journalists at his residence in Abuja today.

The FCT Minister expressed disappointment over what he described as misplaced priorities by the Rivers State Governor, particularly the failure to present the 2026 state budget to the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“The Governor is yet to submit his budget to the House of Assembly but he is busy running for second term ambition,” Wike said.

Wike criticised Fubara for focusing more on political campaigns and re-election efforts at the expense of key governance responsibilities, including timely presentation of the appropriation bill.

He warned that such delay could hamper the smooth running of government activities and the delivery of essential services to the people of Rivers State.

This latest remark further highlights the ongoing political rift between Wike and Fubara, once considered political allies. The relationship between the two has been strained since Fubara assumed office in 2023, leading to repeated public exchanges and political realignments in the state.
