Rivers Political Group Urges Tinubu to Name Fubara Progressive Forum Chairman

A prominent Rivers State political group has called on President Bola Tinubu to formally announce Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the new Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum.

The demand was made by the Chairman of the group, Austin Nengi, who addressed stakeholders shortly after reports emerged that Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State was sacked as the chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum.

In a strongly worded statement, Nengi described the development as a timely opportunity to inject fresh leadership into the forum, positioning Governor Fubara as the ideal candidate to steer the progressive governors towards greater unity and effective governance.

“We stand firmly by this position and urge President Tinubu to immediately announce Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the Chairman of the Progressive Forum,” Nengi declared. “This is the moment for bold and visionary leadership that truly reflects the aspirations of our people.”

The Rivers group praised Fubara’s developmental strides and resilience amid the state’s political challenges, arguing that his inclusion at the helm of the forum would strengthen the progressive bloc ahead of future political engagements.

As of now, the Presidency is yet to issue any official reaction to the call. Meanwhile, reports of Uzodinma’s removal have generated mixed reactions across political circles, with some quarters describing it as a strategic realignment within the All Progressives Congress (APC) structure.

Political observers believe the move could signal a significant shift in the dynamics of the Progressive Governors Forum, especially with key stakeholders in Rivers State pushing aggressively for Fubara’s elevation.
