BREAKING: APC shifts Reps primary election

The All Progressives Congress has postponed its House of Representatives primary election for the 2027 general elections by one day.

The ruling party, however, maintained that other primary elections earlier scheduled in its timetable would proceed as planned.

The development was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka.

According to the statement, the House of Representatives primary election earlier scheduled to hold on Friday has now been shifted to Saturday, May 16, 2026.

“The All Progressives Congress announces the postponement of the House of Representatives Primary Election for the 2027 General Elections to Saturday, May 16, 2026,” the statement read.

The party clarified that the adjustment affected only the House of Representatives primary, stressing that all other dates in the previously released timetable remained unchanged.

It stated that the Senate primary election would still hold on Monday, May 18, 2026, while the State Houses of Assembly primary election had been fixed for Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

The clarification followed reports in some quarters claiming that the ruling party had made sweeping changes to its primary election timetable.

The APC, however, dismissed the reports as misleading, insisting that only the House of Representatives primary election date had been adjusted.
