APC Aspirant Mahmud Sadisu Buba Reportedly Listed as Born in 2010, Raising Eligibility Questions

Official documents linked to Mahmud Sadisu Buba, a contender for the Sabon Gari Federal Constituency seat in Kaduna State, have sparked controversy after reportedly indicating that he was born on August 27, 2010.

The aspirant, popularly known as Abin Al’ajabi, recently attracted national attention when he appeared before the screening committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the party’s primaries. Prior to the screening, he had been photographed with several top Nigerian political figures, including Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kashim Shettima, and Godswill Akpabio.

In an interview with BBC News⁠�, Mr. Buba stated that he is above 25 years old, which is the constitutional minimum age required to contest for a seat in Nigeria’s House of Representatives.

However, copies of his National Identification Number (NIN) slip and international passport reportedly show a date of birth of August 27, 2010.

If those records are accurate, he would turn 16 in August 2026 and would not meet the age requirement outlined in Section 65 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Under the Constitution, candidates seeking election into the House of Representatives must be at least 25 years old. The minimum age for the Senate, governorship, and presidency is 35 years.
The development has prompted a formal petition to the APC House of Representatives Appeals Committee. The petition, filed by the law firm BLACK HALSBURYS L.P on behalf of Samaru Layin Tsamiya Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Limited, alleges discrepancies in the aspirant’s age, identity records, and educational qualifications.

If substantiated, the allegations could affect Mahmud Sadisu Buba’s eligibility to contest for the Sabon Gari Federal Constituency seat and may lead to further scrutiny by the party and relevant authorities.
