Atiku Abubakar Wins ADC Presidential Primary in Sokoto State with Landslide Victory
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has secured a decisive victory in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election held in Sokoto State.
According to results announced from the direct primary exercise, Atiku Abubakar polled a massive 68,823 votes, overwhelmingly defeating his closest challengers.
Muhammad Hayatuddeen received 319 votes
* Rotimi Amaechi garnered 292 votes
The outcome reflects strong support for the former Vice President within the Sokoto State chapter of the ADC as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections. The Sokoto chapter had earlier adopted Atiku as its consensus and sole presidential candidate ahead of the primaries.
This result forms part of the nationwide direct presidential primaries conducted by the ADC across thousands of wards today. Atiku, Rotimi Amaechi, and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen were the three cleared aspirants contesting for the party’s presidential ticket.
Atiku Abubakar, who recently joined the ADC after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is positioning himself as a leading contender in the opposition coalition efforts aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. The primaries in Sokoto saw massive turnout, consistent with reports from other parts of the country where voting took place simultaneously in wards nationwide.
