Ado-Ekiti — The Ekiti State University (EKSU) community is in shock after Deputy Registrar Dr. Solomon Oluwasola Afolabi, a candidate for the position of Registrar, slumped and died during an aptitude test on Tuesday 9th June, 2026.

Eyewitnesses said Dr. Afolabi suddenly screamed in distress mid-way through the exercise, raising alarm among other candidates and officials at the venue. He was rushed to the university health centre, but medical personnel confirmed him dead despite resuscitation efforts.

A staff member who spoke on condition of anonymity described Dr. Afolabi as one of the leading contenders for the registrar’s seat.

The circumstances surrounding his death have left many staff and students confused, with some describing the incident as “strange”.

Other candidates in the selection process are Dr. Babatola J.E.T. and Mrs. Adeojo R.T.B.
