*Being the text of a speech delivered by the Yoruba Study Group at the presentation of the Golden Leadership Excellence Award to Hon. Esan Owolabi, Executive Chairman, Akoko Northwest Local Government, Okeagbe, Ondo State, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.*
Our amiable awardee, Hon. Owolabi Esan, Executive Chairman, Akoko Northwest Local Government; Directors, top government functionaries, and staff of the Council; other distinguished personalities here present; ladies and gentlemen.
I welcome you all with the evergreen words of American statesman Theodore Roosevelt, who said: “The measure of life is not in its duration but in its donation.”

For the purpose of introduction, the Yoruba Study Group is a socio-political heritage body committed to reviving Yoruba _Omoluabi_ ethos that once distinguished us as a special race globally.
Our programs focus on enlightening our people on social readjustment, cultural and identity recovery through _Omoluabi_ values that have waned over the years. Our objectives also include reawakening the spirit of involvement and participation in politics, security, education, community service, democracy, and good governance.
On rare occasions like today, the Yoruba Study Group celebrates excellence. We honor those who have demonstrated quality leadership in their careers and duty posts while advancing humanity. In this regard, Honourable Chairman Owolabi Esan has done excellently well.
Excellence is a ten-letter word that carries the fragrance of beauty and purity. Success is like gold. He who must have it must dig deep. Getting gold requires energy and patience. Gold is not for the lily-livered. That is why the Yoruba Study Group celebrates our amiable Chairman, Hon. Owolabi Esan, who has demonstrated excellence in his career and service to humanity.
We, in the Yoruba Study Group, consider it a duty to profoundly appreciate and celebrate our awardee. Hon. Owolabi Esan has contributed immeasurably to the economic growth, human capital, and infrastructural development of Ondo State and Nigeria. He has done so with efficiency, patriotism, and dedication. His track record in advancing local government administration and grassroots development in Akoko Northwest LGA is massive and unparalleled. It is a testimony of democracy in action under a true and deserving leader.

It is worthy to mention Hon. Owolabi Esan’s achievements within one year in office:
1. Construction of industrial boreholes in Okeagbe, Erusu, and Ikaram Akoko
2. Reconstruction of collapsed bridges in Irun, Arigidi, and Ogbagi Akoko
3. Grading of roads across the LGA
4. Installation of solar streetlights across the ten wards of Akoko Northwest
5. Inauguration of volunteer security formations for community policing to curb insecurity
These feats have earned him a reputable brand name with an untainted record.
We also use this medium to appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his Renewed Hope Agenda and for advancing local government autonomy. We commend our progressive Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for massive infrastructural development across Ondo State and for ensuring the functionality of local governments. We also salute our indefatigable Minister, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his unquantifiable contributions to Nigeria and humanity.
Hon. Owolabi Esan has demonstrated proficiency, diligence, brilliance, and leadership by example. He has distinguished himself as a rare gem through quality service delivery, administrative competence, and an unquenchable thirst for excellence. He is a thoroughbred _Omoluabi_ and a disciplinarian whose vision, dedication, and good character inspire millions of Nigerian youths. He embodies _Omoluabi_ ethos in all his conduct.
Over the years, Hon. Esan has displayed qualities that set him above his peers: intellectual capacity, maturity, experience, efficiency, courage, patriotism, and resourcefulness. These are the attributes needed for outstanding leadership. His track record in public and private service proves that Nigeria can still be great.
Hon. Esan Owolabi means different things to different people:
To men and women of his generation, he is a mentor and role model.
To the people of Irun Akoko, he is an illustrious son and worthy ambassador.
To Ondo State, he is an inestimable asset.
Among local government chairmen, he is a leading light and shining star.

To humanity, he is a rare breed.
Ladies and gentlemen, however you perceive him, Hon. Owolabi Esan is a distinguished achiever and trailblazer.
From the foregoing, you will agree that Hon. Owolabi Esan is a young, energetic, purposeful, resourceful, innovative, dynamic, and passionate leader. He is intelligent, humble, humane, selfless, and fearless. He is an enigma and a colossus of our era.
As we honor you today, may God Almighty answer your prayers. May He continue to bless you, your family, your staff, the people of Akoko Northwest LGA, and all distinguished personalities here present with good health, economic prosperity, and divine protection. May your soaring image never dwindle. No weapon fashioned against you shall prosper.
Ladies and gentlemen, I ask that we all rise to honor a dedicated leader, outstanding administrator, reputable politician, compassionate philanthropist, thoroughbred _Omoluabi_, worthy ambassador of the Yoruba race, reputable mentor, refined role model, grassroots developer, and the Progressive Chairman of Akoko Northwest LGA, Hon. Owolabi Esan, as he steps forward to receive the Yoruba Study Group Golden Leadership Excellence Award as Icon of Excellence & Most Outstanding Grassroots Democrat of the Year 2025/2026.
