MY POSITION ON JUST-CONCLUDED APC PRIMARY ELECTIONS

Honourable Soji Ehinlanwo and other aspirants who recently joined the peace and reconciliation movement deserve praise for respecting party decisions. They aim to ensure party safety and secure victory in the upcoming November 25th election.

For those who are still reluctant to concede and truly acknowledge the triumph of His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa, it is important to understand that no single person holds greater importance than the leadership of the party. Their personal ambitions should not overshadow the collective interests of the party and all its members.

Sincerely, this quality is lacking in many democrats and Nigerian political parties today. Those who genuinely accepted the party’s decision are great examples of democratic leaders with clear and undiluted visions. When an aspirant loses an election but chooses not to take the party to court, it benefits the party in several ways.

For me, this character can only be found in a man who deeply cares about the spirit of the party. Hon Soji Ehinlanwo and others are true party enthusiasts who envision a future in their political ambitions. Their dedication stems from their political backgrounds and experiences, unlike few others who lack political understandings and exposures, and only bring negativity to the party with their ambitions and petitions.

As I mentioned before, it is better to avoid taking the party to court for several reasons. Firstly, by supporting the party’s decision, we can keep the party united and strong for the upcoming general election in November. This also helps prevent internal conflicts and fights that might happen if we go to court over the election results.

Moreover, not going to court saves money and reduces emotional stress, allowing us to focus on important party tasks. Our party faces a tough opposition from the PDP, which has strong financial support and experienced politicians who have been in power for over 16 years. By gracefully accepting defeat, we show the public that we are mature and committed to the party and democracy.

Instead of dwelling on the loss, candidates who did not win could concentrate on future opportunities within the party, such as building relationships and preparing for other roles.

To cap it all, when candidates respect the party’s decision after losing an election, it makes the party more stable, unified, and respected, which is crucial in politics, rather than causing division by filing petitions against the party.
