A New Dawn for Ondo Education as Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun Begins with Grace, Grit, and Grand Vision

In a momentous welcome that echoed hope, excellence, and renewal, the Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology rolled out a spirited reception for its new helmsman, Professor Igbekele Amos Ajibefun—a leader widely celebrated for transformative strides in the education sector.

Held at the Ministry’s Conference Room in Akure, the event marking the Commissioner’s first day in office was more than ceremonial. It was deeply spiritual, symbolic, and energizing. Eminent religious leaders offered heartfelt prayers for the state, the Ministry, the new Commissioner, and Nigeria at large—infusing the atmosphere with unity, conviction, and divine expectation.

The Ministry’s Administrative Secretary, Dr. Akindele Ige, formally introduced the Commissioner to an enthusiastic audience, drawing thunderous applause. In his welcome address, Dr. Ige described the appointment as timely and strategic, noting that Prof. Ajibefun’s emergence comes at a defining moment in Ondo State’s education reform efforts.

Dr. Ige praised the new Commissioner as a seasoned educationist, visionary administrator, and development champion, citing his exceptional leadership as Rector of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, and Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko—roles in which he led institutional turnarounds.

Clearly moved by the warm reception, Prof. Ajibefun expressed deep gratitude to the staff and pledged a leadership style rooted in inclusivity, collaboration, and transparency. He emphasized the importance of collective effort and shared responsibility across all departments of the Ministry.

He reminded staff that education is the bedrock of national development and underscored the need for excellence, innovation, and diligence in all areas. His vision is clear and ambitious—transforming the education sector into a model of global standards and best practices.

He stressed the need for unity, professionalism, and unwavering commitment, urging every staff member—regardless of cadre—to see themselves as vital contributors to the Ministry’s success.

Following the reception, Dr. Ige conducted the Commissioner to his office and handed over the affairs of the Ministry after an in-depth operational briefing. Without delay, Prof. Ajibefun convened his first management meeting, emphasizing his core mission of ensuring inclusive and equitable access to quality education for every child in Ondo State.

Demonstrating his hands-on style, the Commissioner immediately embarked on field inspections, monitoring ongoing NECO examinations across Akure, interacting with school officials, and personally assessing infrastructure.

At the Education Resource Centre in Ayedun, Akure, Prof. Ajibefun observed the severe infrastructural damage caused by recent rainfall. He firmly declared the centre would be revived and restored to fulfill its original purpose—advancing educational innovation and supporting teachers.

With a distinguished track record that blends administrative competence with visionary leadership, Prof. Ajibefun’s tenure is poised to reposition education as a true driver of development in Ondo State. His approach will be guided by data, innovation, accountability, and people-centered governance.

As his stewardship unfolds, one thing is certain: Ondo State’s education sector has found in him a navigator with purpose, pedigree, and the power to transform.
