HIS EXCELLENCY LUCKY ORIMISAN AYEDATIWA DID NOT ORDER THE ARREST OF AAC’s GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE

Ondo State Governor His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa did not order the arrest and detention of Mr. Kunle Ajayi, the African Action Congress (AAC) candidate for the gubernatorial election scheduled for November 16, 2024, in Ondo State, nor did he order the detention of other protesters as falsely reported.

The recent protests in Ondo State came as a surprise to both the local populace and security agencies. Despite nationwide protests lasting nine days, Ondo State remained calm, with businesses operating normally and no reported destruction of public or private property across the state’s 18 local government areas. Ondo State has consistently been recognized as one of the most peaceful states in the southwest region, earning accolades from both Nigerian media and international observers for its tranquillity and order.

However, some individuals with malicious intentions sought to disrupt the state’s peace by masquerading as protesters. These individuals aimed to create chaos and disorder but were met with swift action by the security forces, who detained those found inciting violence for further questioning. This response contradicts the false claims made by opposition parties.

The police and other security agencies are tasked with maintaining a peaceful environment for all citizens and ensuring uninterrupted economic activities. This duty was carried out diligently in Ondo State, contrary to the misleading narratives promoted by opposition groups.

The Ayedatiwa Image Makers (AIM) conducted an investigation and found that these disruptive elements did not act in the state’s interest. The people of Ondo State have learned from past experiences, such as the 1983 Operation WET and the recent EndSARS protests, which caused significant damage and disruption in some parts of the state.

Governor Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa’s efforts to maintain peace and stability have not been well received by those who hoped for unrest to use as a political strategy. The opposition’s attempt to incite violence on the final day of protests, after failing to provoke unrest earlier, was an ill-conceived effort to undermine the governor’s work.

In conclusion, the peaceful approach taken by Ondo State and Governor Ayedatiwa’s commitment to stability was not anticipated by the opposition, who was instead seeking to exploit any potential for disorder. The governor remains dedicated to improving the state’s economy and maintaining peace. We therefore urge those behind this ill-conceived protest to stop immediately and not allow themselves to be used by political enemies who are desperate for power. Instead, we encourage them to work in collaboration with the good people of the state and government to make the Sunshine State greater for the benefit of everyone.
