What should have been a celebration of 45 years of love, partnership, and shared purpose now sits side by side with a date that split my life into before and after.

December 26, 2023… the day my world crashed.

Love stories are often told in soft tones—romance, laughter, beautiful memories. Ours had all of that, yes. But ours was also forged in fire—through public life, political storms, illness, pressure, and the unrelenting demands of purpose. We didn’t just love each other; we worked, we built, we endured.

We were a TEAM.

Two individuals, clear in vision, strong in identity, yet united in mission.

He walked a path of law and leadership—rising, step by step, to the highest levels of his profession and into governance. I walked my own path—rooted in science, advocacy, and impact—building institutions, empowering women and girls, and shaping lives.

Parallel journeys. Shared purpose.

We did not compete. We complemented.

We did not lose ourselves in each other. We strengthened each other.

That was the secret.

A marriage that cannot withstand crisis cannot cross decades. Ours did. Through the weight of public scrutiny, the strain of leadership, the quiet battles of illness—we held the line. Together.

And I made a decision early: I would not disappear into a title. I would not be reduced to a role. I would use the platform, not be used by it. And he understood that. He respected it. He supported it.

That kind of partnership is rare.

That kind of man is rare.

Grief does not obey time. It does not fade neatly. It does not consult the calendar. Today, on what should have been our 45th wedding anniversary, I am holding both love and loss in the same breath.
