Former Super Eagles Striker Dies After Collapsing During Match

According to eyewitness accounts, the former international had only just been introduced in the second half when he suddenly slumped to the ground without any physical contact from other players.

Former Super Eagles striker Michael Eneramo has died after collapsing during a football match in Kaduna on Friday, in a shocking incident that has thrown Nigeria’s football community into mourning.

Eneramo, 40, was said to be participating in a local game at the Ungwar Yelwa pitch in the Television area of Kaduna when tragedy struck, according to Score Nigeria.

According to eyewitness accounts, the former international had only just been introduced in the second half when he suddenly slumped to the ground without any physical contact from other players.

Reports suggest that attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel later confirmed him dead.

Eneramo earned 10 caps for the Super Eagles between 2009 and 2011.

He made his debut in a friendly match against Jamaica in February 2009 and went on to score his first international goal three months later against the Republic of Ireland.

During his professional career, Eneramo played for several clubs across Nigeria, North Africa, and Europe. He featured for Beşiktaş J.K., Sivasspor, and İstanbul Başakşehir F.K. in Turkey. He also enjoyed a successful stint with Espérance Sportive de Tunis, where he became a fan favourite, as well as with Nigeria’s Lobi Stars F.C.

Nicknamed “Al Dababa” (The Tank) for his strength and commanding presence on the pitch, Eneramo was widely regarded as a powerful forward known for his goal-scoring ability and physical style of play.

Before his death, he had retired from professional football and was running a football academy, mentoring young players and contributing to grassroots football development.
