
A few days after his resignation, Wale Edun openly endorses Lagos governorship aspirant

Immediate past minister of finance and coordinating economy, Wale Edun has openly endorsed the current deputy governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat to succeed governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2027.
Wale Edun endorsed Obafemi Hamzat when the later visited him on Saturday to seek his support for his gubernatorial ambition.
During the meeting, Hamzat explained that the visit was to consult the APC chieftain over his governorship ambition, emphasizing the importance of carrying all the APC stakeholders along as a critical tradition of the party.
Consultations are part of a democratic process to strengthen the party. And it’s our tradition to ensure that we carry every member along in the decision-making,” he stated.
Wale Edun described Obafemi Hamzat’s visit as a demonstration of grassroot democracy necessary for sustainability of peace and unity in the political party. He assured Obafemi Hamzat of his absolute support for his gubernatorial ambition, describing him as competent, qualified, and experienced.

You have our endorsement. You have the capacity, experience, and competence to lead,” he stated.
On the same day, Obafemi Hamzat also visited the senator representing Lagos east senatorial district, Tokunbo Abiru who also endorsed Obafemi Hamzat governorship ambition. Senator Tokunbo Abiru described the Lagos deputy governor as the most experienced and qualified among the forefront aspirants.
