Equity and Justice Demand Power Rotation to Akoko South East in Akoko South Federal Constituency

Akoko South East Local Government is an integral part of the Akoko South Federal Constituency, and this reality underscores the need to uphold the principle of rotation in the interest of fairness and inclusiveness.

Available records since the return of democracy in 1999 show a clear imbalance. Out of about twenty-eight years of democratic governance, Akoko South East has held the federal seat for only twelve years. In contrast, Akoko South West has occupied the position for four terms—amounting to sixteen years—without yielding to its sister local government.

This pattern raises legitimate concerns about equity and justice. While Akoko South West may have structural advantages, these factors do not translate into exclusive ownership of the Federal Constituency. The constituency belongs collectively to both Akoko South East and Akoko South West, and its representation should reflect that shared ownership.

In the spirit of fairness, balance, and political justice, it is only appropriate that Akoko South East be given the opportunity to represent the constituency in the forthcoming general elections in 2027. More importantly, Akoko South East should be granted the slot to make up for the outstanding years it has been shortchanged in the rotation arrangement, thereby restoring balance and strengthening the foundation of equity within the constituency.

Respecting rotation is not just a political convenience—it is a stabilizing principle that promotes unity, mutual respect, and long-term cooperation.

We therefore appeal to His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, and the State Party Chairman, Hon. Kolawole Babatunde, to carefully consider this matter. Their intervention is crucial in guiding stakeholders toward a just resolution and ensuring that Akoko South West allows equity to prevail by supporting a shift in representation.

Justice, when upheld, strengthens the party, builds trust among stakeholders, and ultimately benefits the people.
