AREWA REVIVAL PROJECT DEFENDS THE CONSTITUTIONAL LEADERSHIP OF SENATE PRESIDENT GODSWILL AKPABIO
The Arewa Revival Project (ARP) has observed with concern recent public comments and political narratives aimed at questioning the legitimacy and qualification of the President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio.
As a respected northern grassroots advocacy and democratic support organization, we consider it necessary to reaffirm our confidence in the constitutional leadership and institutional role of Senator Godswill Akpabio as the duly elected President of the Nigerian Senate.
Senator Akpabio emerged through a democratic process conducted in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the established Standing Orders of the Senate. His election reflected the collective mandate and confidence of the majority of Senators representing the Nigerian people.
Democracy naturally accommodates differing opinions and political disagreements. However, public statements capable of creating unnecessary institutional tension or undermining confidence in the National Assembly should be approached with caution, responsibility, and patriotism.
The office of the Senate President remains a constitutionally recognized institution whose legitimacy cannot be invalidated by personal opinions or political disagreements outside lawful parliamentary and judicial procedures.
We therefore commend Senator Akpabio for his maturity, patience, and commitment to maintaining order, discipline, and legislative stability within the Red Chamber despite ongoing political distractions.
At a time when Nigerians expect serious legislative attention toward economic growth, security challenges, youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and national unity, political actors must place national interest above divisive rhetoric.
The Arewa Revival Project strongly believes that cooperation between the Executive and Legislative arms of government remains essential for the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda and the overall progress of Nigeria.
We call on all political stakeholders, lawmakers, youth organizations, and patriotic Nigerians to support democratic institutions, respect constitutional processes, and encourage constructive engagement capable of strengthening national stability and sustainable development.
Nigeria’s democracy must continue to be guided by civility, institutional respect, and responsible leadership.
