Nigerian Military Airstrik£ El!minates Senior ISWAP Commander, 49 Others in Borno

The Nigerian military has recorded another major success in its ongoing counterterrorism operations following a precision airstrike that reportedly neutralized several high-ranking terrorist commanders and dozens of fighters in Borno State.
According to security sources, the air operation targeted terrorist hideouts around Kirta and Arina Ciki in the Lake Chad region of Borno State. The strike was said to have resulted in the death of at least 50 insurgents, including Khalifa Umar, also known as Mamman Khalifa or Muhammad Khalifa, a prominent leader within the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

Khalifa Umar was reportedly one of the group’s most influential figures, serving as a senior judge and a member of ISWAP’s powerful Shura Council, the body responsible for strategic decision-making and leadership oversight within the terrorist organization.
Military intelligence indicated that the operation was based on credible surveillance and intelligence gathering, which enabled the Nigerian Air Force to carry out a precise strike on the gathering of insurgent commanders and fighters.
Security analysts describe the elimination of Khalifa Umar as a significant blow to ISWAP’s command structure, given his role in ideological guidance, judicial matters, and strategic planning for the group.

The operation forms part of ongoing military offensives aimed at dismantling terrorist networks operating in the North-East and restoring lasting peace to communities affected by insurgency.
While military authorities are yet to release a detailed official statement on the operation, sources say efforts are continuing to track fleeing insurgents and prevent any regrouping by terrorist elements in the region.
The latest success underscores the Nigerian military’s intensified campaign against terrorist groups in the Lake Chad basin, a region that has remained a major stronghold for insurgent activities for more than a decade.
