Renewed political t£nsion in Rivers state as LGA Chairmen clash with governor Fubara

Another political tension is brewing up in Rivers state as governor Siminalayi Fubara faces a coordinated opposition from the 23 local government chairmen in the state.

Governor Fubara is reportedly in another political faceoff this time with the chairmen of the 23 local government areas in Rivers state. A source privy to the development informed the Reliant.ng that the governor is currently facing coordinated resistance from the 23 local government chairmen who oppose the governor’s recent move to promote local government workers who are due for promotion.

According to the source, the governor had concluded the promotion of the state’s workers who were due for promotion and seeks to do same to the local government workers in the state.

According to the source, the local government chairmen believe that if the governor succeeds in promoting the local government workers, it will impact the allocation and treasury the local government areas as they will be spending more on paying the local government workers because promotion comes with salary increment.

Consequently, the chairmen are determined to frustrate the governor by collectively opposing the move by the governor who insists that the local government workers who are due for promotion deserve to be promoted at the expense of the chairmen’s personal interest and in line with fairness and equity.

The governor wants to do the right thing. He is determined to have his way, to promote the local government workers even though the chairmen collectively oppose him. The problem started when the governor finished promoting the state’s workers and then want to promote the local government workers. The chairmen oppose him because they believe that the governor will be making them spend more on salary payment which they don’t want for their selfish interest’.
