According to a video posted on YouTube by Arise TV on Monday, June 22, 2026, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad (FID STS) have arrested a wanted bandit kingpin, Mohammed Usman, popularly known as “Yellow Lawani,” while he was attempting to travel out of Kogi State with his wife.

The arrest reportedly followed intelligence gathering that tracked Usman to an airport after he purchased flight tickets worth ₦9.8 million for himself and his wife.

Assistant Commissioner of Police and Commander of the FID STS, Victor Ogbeide, explained that the suspect was intercepted on his way to the airport as part of an intelligence-led operation. He stated that the tactical squad followed the suspect based on credible information and later took him into custody.

Ogbeide further disclosed that the operation extended to a forest area in Kogi State, where security operatives reportedly recovered two AK-47 rifles linked to the suspect.

He added that the arrest demonstrated the efforts of the tactical squad in monitoring and disrupting criminal activities, noting that Usman was taken into custody after being tracked successfully through coordinated intelligence operations.

Usman was arrested alongside his brother, Abubakar Usman, during the operation.

Abubakar reportedly denied any involvement in alleged criminal activities linked to his brother. He stated that he was unaware of Mohammed’s alleged involvement in banditry until the moment of their arrest by the police tactical team.

Security sources said the arrest is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to combat armed banditry and dismantle criminal networks operating in Kogi State and surrounding areas.
