Kwara Police Arrest Two Suspected Cultists, Recover Locally Made Pistol in Ilorin

The Kwara State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on cult-related crimes with the arrest of two suspected members of rival cult groups and the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm during intelligence-led operations in Ilorin.Law Enforcement

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the arrests were made following credible intelligence and sustained surveillance by operatives of the Command as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating within the state capital.

One of the suspects, 33-year-old Abdullahi Jimoh Omotoho, was apprehended during the operation. Police identified him as a suspected member of the Klans-Avea cult group. A locally fabricated Beretta-style pistol was reportedly recovered from him at the time of his arrest.

The Command said information obtained during preliminary investigations led officers to another suspect, Abdullahi Kareem Kawu, popularly known as “B-Red,” who is alleged to be affiliated with the Eiye Confraternity. Investigators said Kawu is cooperating with detectives as they expand efforts to uncover and dismantle cult-related criminal activities across Ilorin.

Police described the arrests as another significant milestone in the Command’s sustained offensive against cultism, violent crime, and other security threats. Investigations have already generated fresh intelligence on the operations of suspected criminal gangs, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend additional members of the groups.Law Enforcement

Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism, vigilance, and commitment to intelligence-driven policing. He reiterated the Command’s resolve to ensure that criminal elements have no refuge anywhere in Kwara State.

The police chief also warned individuals involved in cultism and other violent crimes to abandon such activities or face the full weight of the law. He appealed to residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent crime and improve public safety.

The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities said they will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
