Major Road Projects Started/Revived by Tinubu Administration in Southeast & South-South (2023–2026)

Under the “Renewed Hope Agenda”, the Tinubu government shifted to concrete pavements + tax-credit funding and revived several long-abandoned corridors. Key ones in SE/SS:

#SOUTHEAST
1. Enugu–Onitsha Expressway – 107km dual carriageway
– Status: Reconstruction ongoing. First 15km of concrete section ∼97% complete. Targeted completion May 2026
– Cost: N202bn original + N150bn for 72km concrete redesign = over N350bn total
– Funding: MTN Nigeria tax-credit scheme. Executed by RCC, MTN, NigerCat

2. Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway
– Status: Section 3 Enugu-Lokpanta by CGC. Section 2 Umuahia Tower-Aba by Arab Contractors. Section 4 Aba–Port Harcourt by CCECC. CCECC completed 61km
– Focus: Dual carriageway rehabilitation across Enugu, Abia, Rivers states

3. Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue Trans-Saharan Superhighway
– Status: Section 1 Ebonyi 123.6km, N45bn, dualisation progressing. Section 2 Benue–Kogi–Nasarawa, N668bn, ∼28% complete

4. Asaba Heartland Road – 48km rehabilitation
– Status: Reinforced concrete + drainage. Tinubu gave N50bn intervention fund

5. Second Niger Bridge Bypass – 17.5km
– *Status*: By CCCC, N179bn. 30% payment made, 50% to be commissioned by April 20, 2026

#SOUTH-#SOUTH
1. East-West Road Eleme Junction–Onne Port, Rivers – 15km section III
– Status: Reconstruction on reinforced concrete like Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. Tinubu promised completion/“tackle it” multiple times
– Chinese firm: CCECC to rehabilitate deplorable sections

2. Aba–Port Harcourt Highway – 43km dualisation
– Status: 90% complete as of early 2026. Substantially ready by April 2026 for May 12 commissioning
– Contractor: CCECC + indigenous contractor on opposite carriageway

3. Bodo–Bonny Road, Rivers – 34km + 13 bridges
– Status: Cost reviewed to N280bn Sept 2024, 12-month extension. Scheduled completion Sept 2025. Connects Bonny Island to mainland

4. Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway
– Status: Listed by Umahi as flagship project alongside East-West & Trans-Sahara. Passes through South-South states f924a65d775cf2640bececbb2980

Policy Shift: Tinubu/Umahi moved most SE/SS federal roads from asphalt to reinforced concrete “100-year roads”. Also adding solar streetlights + CCTV on completed corridors. 0bececbb
