Another heartbreaking case of alleged intimate partner violence has left Nigerians in shock after a young woman, identified as Habibatu, reportedly lost her life in a tragic incident involving her boyfriend.
According to reports shared by Rivers Mirror, Habibatu was a 500-level Law student at a higher institution in Rivers State. Friends and loved ones say she was only three months away from signing out, with her lifelong dream of becoming a lawyer almost within reach.
Instead of celebrating her graduation, her promising future was reportedly cut short in what has become yet another disturbing case of alleged violence against a young woman by someone she trusted.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, June 23, at the suspect’s apartment on Ajidi Street, Edjeba, in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to friends of the deceased, Habibatu had been in a relationship with the suspect and, during the incident, allegedly managed to contact them in distress, telling them that her boyfriend was harming her.
Alarmed by the call, her friends immediately attempted to reach the suspect by phone. However, he reportedly denied that Habibatu was with him.
Hours later, tragedy unfolded.
Habibatu’s body was reportedly discovered lying in a pool of blood inside the suspect’s living room. Reports indicate that her neck had been slashed, while she also sustained multiple stab wounds, injuries that ultimately claimed her life.
Residents disclosed that the young woman was a familiar face at the suspect’s residence. She had reportedly been seen in the community on Monday, June 22, purchasing food items believed to have been intended for a meal the couple planned to share together.
The tragic death of a young woman who was just months away from earning her law degree has reignited conversations about intimate partner violence, the importance of recognizing warning signs in abusive relationships, and the urgent need for stronger measures to protect victims before situations escalate into irreversible tragedies.
As investigations continue, many Nigerians are demanding justice for Habibatu while mourning a promising future that was tragically cut short.
