Police R£scue Four Children from Alleged Fake Orphanage as Shr!ne Discovery Deepens Child Trafficking Investigation

Amajor child trafficking investigation is unfolding in Niger State after police rescued four young children from two women accused of operating an alleged fake orphanage and illegal adoption service in Suleja.

According to the Niger State Police Command, the rescued children, aged between 4 and 7 years, were found in the custody of two suspects identified as Promise Chukwudi (68) and Suzanna Onojekwo (62).

Investigators said the suspects allegedly presented themselves as operators of an orphanage and child adoption service. During initial questioning, they claimed the children had been lawfully handed over to them for adoption by parents from Taraba State.

However, the investigation took a dramatic turn when several families from Abuja, Nasarawa State, and Benue State came forward, identifying the children as their own. Their claims reportedly contradicted the suspects’ account and raised serious concerns about the circumstances under which the children came into their custody.

As detectives intensified their investigation, officers executed a search at the residence of one of the suspects, Promise Chukwudi.

During the search, police reportedly discovered a shrine, along with animal skulls, bird feathers, and other fetish-related items inside the premises. While authorities have not established any direct connection between these items and the alleged child trafficking case, the discovery has prompted additional lines of investigation, including the possibility of ritual-related activities.

Police emphasized that investigations are ongoing to determine the true identities of all the rescued children, trace their biological families, and establish whether more victims may be linked to the operation.

The four children have since been placed under the care of child protection authorities, where they are receiving appropriate care while efforts continue to reunite them with their families.

The two suspects have been charged to court, and the Niger State Police Command says the investigation remains active as detectives work to uncover the full scope of the alleged operation.

The case has sparked widespread concern over the activities of unregistered orphanages and illegal adoption networks, with many Nigerians calling for stricter oversight to protect vulnerable children from trafficking and exploitation.

Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving children or individuals posing as adoption agents without proper authorization.

As the investigation progresses, many are hoping that justice will be served and that every affected child will be safely reunited with their rightful family.
